Estimation of Link Choice Probabilities Using Monte Carlo Simulation and Maximum Likelihood Estimation Method

Abstract: Studying the uncertainty of traffic flow takes significant importance for the transport planners because of the variation and fluctuation of temporal traffic flow on all links of the transport network. Uncertainty analysis of traffic flow requires identifying and characterizing two sets of parameters. The first set is the link choice set, which involves the Origin-Destination pairs using this link. The second set is the link choice probabilities set, which includes proportions of the travel demand for the Orig… Show more

“…Another study by Myrovali et al [9] connects data collection with innovations by highlighting the importance of collecting feedback from various stakeholders. It can be seen that a clear set of indicators and well-defined parameters is a crucial part of the planning process confirmed by Seger and Kisgyörgy [10].…”

“…(1) will be extremely challenging if the problem is complex. Simulation methods such as Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) [7][8][9], or approximation methods [10][11][12] are brought up as the alternatives. The exact solution is accessible in MCS, but at the cost of generating too many samples.…”

“…The flow is generated with aggregated variables such as space-mean speed, traffic density, and traffic volume of the road links. Macroscopic flow models have a vast literature, just mentioning a few important ones: [37], [38], [39], [40].…”
