The present study was to determine the nature of gene action and combining ability of six quantitative traits related to productivity of five varieties and ten hybrid combinations of durum wheat. Five modern durum wheat varieties were used in diallel crosses as parents. The study includes three F1 and two F2 generations. The experiments were done in a randomized block design in three replications during three years. Significant differences between the genotypes in both generations was found for all the traits. The general combining ability and specific combining ability showed reliability in both generations. Obtained results suggests that breeding schemes should include both types of genetic effects in order to improve productivity components. The ratio of variances showed that general combining ability has a greater influence on the inheritance of plant height, spike length and thousand kernels weight. For productivity tillering capacity, number of spikelets per spike and kernels weight per spike, specific combining ability has a great impact in inheritance. For thousand kernels weight a redetermination of the genetic formula was established in both generations. Durum wheat varieties Deni, Superdur and Progres were found to be the best general combinators for studied productivity elements. The most valuable cross combinations were Deni × Superdur, Superdur × Predel and Progres × Predel. Parental wheat varieties and progenies from these crosses can be used for improving productivity components and for increasing yields in durum wheat breeding programs.

Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is the preferred crop in arid regions, particularly for farmers with limited agricultural resources and low income. Typically, it is utilized for human consumption, animal feed, and malting. The discovery of natural (organic) sources of biostimulants has attracted a great deal of interest for crop productivity enhancement. Using a randomized complete block design with three main blocks, it was our aim to investigate the effects of foliar moringa (Moringa oleifera L.) organ extract (MOE) on the growth and yield components of a collection of barley accessions grown in Iraq. As indicated by the obtained results, almost all traits associated with barley growth and yield productivity were significantly enhanced by MOE application, relative to the respective control condition. The majority of barley accessions responded positively to the MOE treatment based on all studied traits (with the exception of 1000-kernel weight). According to the results of principal component analysis (PCA), the distribution of accessions on the two components under the MOE application was distinct from the distribution of accessions under control conditions, indicating that accessions responded differently to the MOE application. In addition, the distribution pattern of traits under MOE treatment was comparable to the distribution pattern of traits under the control condition, with the exception of two traits: total yield and 1000-kernel weight. AC5 and AC18 responded positively to the MOE application by possessing the highest total yield and harvest index values. The total yield trait registered the highest increasing value index (37.55%) based on the trait response index, followed by the straw weight (22.29%), tillering number per plant (21.44%), and spike number per plant (21.36%), while the spike length trait registered the lowest increasing value index (0.45%), compared to the traits under control conditions. So far, the results indicate that foliar application of MOE can be utilized effectively as a natural growth promoter to increase the growth and yield productivity of grown barley accessions.

Abstract. The purpose. The research is aimed at studying the combinational ability and the possibility of transmitting of productivity elements and quality from Italian and Russian sources in order to improve the gluten quality of spring durum wheat varieties of the Siberian ecotype. Metods. In 2020 and 2021years on the basis of the durum wheat breeding laboratory of the “Omsk ASC”, in the system of incomplete topcrosses were studied the varieties Zhemchuzhina Sibiri, Omskiy izumrud, Omskiy korall, Hordeiforme 10-33-3, Hordeiforme 11-76-3, Taganrog and 3 Italian breeding lines. Material for the quality of gluten was evaluated by the SDS-sedimentation (SDS), the index of gluten (IG). Principal component analysis carried out using the R package version 4.1.2. Results. In the genetic control of traits: IG, SDS, grain mass of the main spike, number of grains of the main spike, the mass of grain from the plant is dominated by the additive-dominant system. In hybrids F1, according to the signs of productivity, a heterozic effect. Of all the traits studied, screening will be effective for IG, SDS, grain mass of the main spike, and number of grains. It is advisable to carry out the screening at the same time on the productivity and quality of gluten. The involvement of Italian lines in the breeding process additionally requires the control of yield properties. Scientific novelty. The combinative ability of gluten quality and productivity elements from crossing Italian and Russian varieties of durum wheat has been studied. The problem of ecological changes in the IG has been identified, which entails additional research.
