Estimation of genetic parameters for egg production traits in Japanese quail that selected for immune responses and fed different level of dietary L-arginine

Abstract: This study was conducted in the fields of the Department of Animal Production - College of Agriculture at Kirkuk University for the period from 6/14/2021 to 7/30/2022. 750 quail chicks were supplied from the Poultry Research Station of the Agricultural Research Department in Abu Ghraib. The chicks were fed the starter ration until the age of 30 days, and then they were fed the production ration. At the age of 4 weeks, the chicks were vaccinated with the attenuated Newcastle vaccine, and the chicks were divided… Show more

“…The percentage and chemical composition of fed materials fed to experiment birds. The eggs were collected and weighed weekly for each hen by using a sensitive scale with a sensitivity of (0.01) g. The weekly egg production was measured according to [11], and the hen day egg production % as calculated according to [12], also the egg mass was measured according to [13]. Prior to each replicate's chicken introduction, the diets were weighted out; leftovers were likewise weighted out at the conclusion of each week for calculate feed intake [14].…”

“…A total of (189) three genetic quail chicks (White = 54, brown = 64, and grey = 71) were used. The quails were bred for 16 weeks and given the diet starved overnight and thereafter weighed [10]. At the end of experiment, the birds were slaughtered using a knife and were allowed to bleed for two minutes.…”

“…Modern molecular biology techniques have been adopted to improve egg production by focusing on behavior of target gene, as these techniques are a more efficient way to egg production in chickens [6,7]. It is becoming increasingly important in poultry breeding programs [8,9]. Estrogen is the main hormone in growth of follicles in chickens [10].…”
