Estimation of Frequency for AM/FM Models Using the Phase Vocoder Framework

Abstract: Abstract-This paper proposes an extension of the applicability of phase-vocoder-based frequency estimators for generalized sinusoidal models, which include phase and amplitude modulations. A first approach, called phase corrected vocoder (PCV), takes into account the modification of the Fourier phases resulting from these modulations. Another approach is based on an adaptation of the principles of the time-frequency reassignment and is referred to as the reassigned vocoder (RV). The robustness of the estimatio… Show more

“…A multicomponent AM-FM signal is described as M x(t) = L ak(t)e j6 k (t) (1) k= l We determine the proper bases to expand x(t) as in K x(t) = L Ck/k (t) (2) k= l These bases {/kj k = 0,1,··· ,K} should possess the following properties: 1) Each basis should be a generalized exponential func tion which is an exponential function with time-varying amplitude and frequency. Since these bases are compatible to AM-FM pattern, resultant expansion would be efficient.…”
