Estimation of Energy Profile and Possible Energy Savings of Unclassified Buildings

Abstract: In the European Union, only 1% of the building stock is renovated every year. According to the EU strategy, around 75% of the existing building stock needs to be renovated by 2050. Energy efficiency programs mainly support residential and public building stocks; this article considers military dormitories as a type of unclassified building. It is very important to improve energy efficiency to reduce energy consumption and improve the microclimate in these buildings, since the staff is there 24/7. This paper an… Show more

“…Moreover, the focus on building energy efficiency extends far beyond the boundaries of a building stock and plays a pivotal role in promoting long-term economic and social progress on both a national and regional scale, and serves as a catalyst for sustainable development, contributing to energy conservation, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced living standards within communities [10][11][12][13]. An extensive number of the current building stock across the Energies 2023, 16, 7483 2 of 15 EU regions has been constructed before the 2000s and is in need of deep renovation [14][15][16][17]. Energy renovation and thermal retrofitting of these buildings could significantly enhance the overall energy efficiency of the building stock in the corresponding region [18,19].…”

“…A partial renovation of a residential building is primarily related to insulating the building envelope or retrofitting the heating system, while the full renovation of the building includes both the insulation of the building envelope and the modernization of the heating system [10][11][12]. It should be noted that before implementing measures to upgrade a building's energy efficiency, what measures stipulate higher feasibility in energy consumption reduction and economic terms have to be thoroughly evaluated [13][14][15].…”
