Estimation of Aboveground Carbon Stock Using Sar Sentinel-1 Imagery in Samarinda City

Abstract: Estimation of aboveground carbon stock on stands vegetation, especially in green open space, has become an urgent issue in the effort to calculate, monitor, manage, and evaluate carbon stocks, especially in a massive urban area such as Samarinda City, Kalimantan Timur Province, Indonesia. The use of Sentinel-1 imagery was maximised to accommodate the weaknesses in its optical imagery, and combined with its ability to produce cloud-free imagery and minimal atmospheric influence. The study aims to test the accur… Show more

“…The data normality test needs to be carried out as a result of using parametric inferential analysis techniques which require the assumption that the data is normally distributed [11]. In this study, the normality test was carried out quantitatively by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and qualitatively by using a histogram and normal curve.…”

“…Indicators used to monitor hydrology restoration progress include the water table, soil moisture, fire vulnerability, and subsidence rate (Bhomia & Murdiyarso 2021). While BRGM has developed a real-time monitoring system (sipalaga, https://sipalaga.brg.go.id/) for these indicators, the stations are still limited (Yananto et al 2022). As the BRGM considers the amount of peat rewetting infrastructure a key indicator to evaluate restoration progress, it is therefore important to increase coverage of monitoring areas.…”

“…Estimating carbon stocks in standing vegetation, especially in forests, has become an urgent issue in efforts to calculate, monitor, manage and evaluate carbon stocks (Dewanto & Jatmiko, 2021). One of the forest areas that is a major store of carbon is the Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Forest.…”
