To improve the characteristics of a tractor power transmission system, make the transmission system not only meet the geometric principle but also meet the working speed requirements of the tractor, realize the continuous adjustment of the speed ratio, and solve the power interruption caused by the change of speed ratio. This paper not only proposes a new type of five-stage hydraulic mechanical continuously variable transmission (HMCVT), but also proposes a geometric design method based on I-GA. In this paper, the intersection position of each working section is introduced in the optimization design process, and six wet clutches, one brake and two planetary rows are used to achieve a flexible geometric design. The results show that the HMCVT proposed in this paper can effectively match the required speed of the tractor. After optimization, the transmission ratio characteristics are consistent with the target characteristics (the average error is about 3.27% and the common ratio is about 1.81); the simulation results based on Simulation X are highly consistent with the theoretical design values (the MAPE of 36 simulation experiments is about 0.72%); and the maximum speed of the tractor is 41.62 km/h. The proposed HMCVT design scheme and optimization design method provide a direct basis for the research and development of the composite power transmission system of tractors or other vehicles and agricultural machinery.

The present manuscript aims at raising awareness of the endless possibilities of fractional calculus applied not only to system identification and control engineering, but also into sensing and filtering domains. The creation of the fractance device has enabled the physical realization of a new array of sensors capable of gathering more information. The same fractional-order electronic component has led to the possibility of exploring analog filtering techniques from a practical perspective, enlarging the horizon to a wider frequency range, with increased robustness to component variation, stability and noise reduction. Furthermore, fractional-order digital filters have developed to provide an alternative solution to higher-order integer-order filters, with increased design flexibility and better performance. The present study is a comprehensive review of the latest advances in fractional-order sensors and filters, with a focus on design methodologies and their real-life applicability reported in the last decade. The potential enhancements brought by the use of fractional calculus have been exploited as well in sensing and filtering techniques. Several extensions of the classical sensing and filtering methods have been proposed to date. The basics of fractional-order filters are reviewed, with a focus on the popular fractional-order Kalman filter, as well as those related to sensing. A detailed presentation of fractional-order filters is included in applications such as data transmission and networking, electrical and chemical engineering, biomedicine and various industrial fields.

Active steering control based on preview theory for articulated heavy vehicles

This paper investigates the active steering control of the tractor and the trailer for the articulated heavy vehicle (AHV) to improve its high-speed lateral stability and low-speed path following. The four-degree-of-freedom (4-DOF) single track dynamic model of the AHV with a front-wheel steered trailer is established. Considering that the road information at the driver’s focus is the most clear and those away from the focus blurred, a new kind controller based on the fractional calculus, i.e., a focus preview controller is designed to provide the steering input for the tractor to make it travel along the desired path. In addition, the active steering controllers based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and single-point preview controller respectively are also proposed for the trailer. However, the latter is designed on the basis of the articulation angle between the tractor and trailer, inspired by the idea of the driver’s single-point preview controller. Finally, the single lane change maneuver and 90o turn maneuver are carried out. And the simulation results show that compared with the single-point preview controller, the new kind preview controller for the tractor can have good high speed maneuvering stability and low speed path tracking ability by adjusting the fractional order of the controller. On this basis, three different AHVs with the same tractor are simulated and the simulation results show that the AHV whose trailer adopts the single-point preview controller has better high-speed lateral stability and low-speed path tracking than the AHV whose trailer adopts the LQR controller.
