“…While research on care by, for, and among, children provides a window onto family relations in diverse cultural contexts and institutional settings, what is missing is an analysis of care, in all its complexity, within particularly 'troubling' family circumstances, where 'good care' may be absent or placed under severe pressure and may lead to concerns for children's and young people's present and future wellbeing. Work on caregiving children has started to explore some of the tensions between culturally appropriate care work and 'harmful' child labour (Evans and Skovdal 2015), but there are many other 'troubling' family circumstances which may harm young people that warrant further critical attention, including domestic violence, abuse, substance misuse, child sexual exploitation, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, to name a few (see also Driscoll 2018; Gottzén 2017; Gottzén and Sandberg 2017; Keogh et al 2013;Mannay 2013;Valentine, Holloway, and Jayne 2010;Wilson 2013).…”
