Estimating quality weights for EQ-5D (EuroQol-5 dimensions) health states with the time trade-off method in Taiwan

Abstract: This study reaffirms the differences in health-related preference values across countries. The high proportion of negative values might indicate that we have also partially measured the intensity of fear in addition to the utility of different health states.

“…To minimize collinearity, repeated measurements were performed more than 2 weeks apart. Using the EQ-5D scoring function from Taiwan [19], we transformed the health state parameters into a utility value ranging from 0 to 1, where 0 represents death and 1 indicates full health. To present the utility value for each group, we constructed linear mixed models to consider random effects from subjects because EQ-5Ds were repeatedly measured.…”

“…This is despite the availability of EQ‐5D (the most commonly used generic, preference‐based measure of health‐related quality of life) value sets for a number of APAC countries . Only recently have most of the EQ‐5D value sets been developed, so moving forward, it may be increasingly practical to estimate QALYs within the region. However, it is likely that a number of APAC countries (eg, Nepal, Cambodia, and Vietnam) will not have the resources available to calculate QALYs specifically for their country and will have to rely on utility weights from other countries.…”

“…The EQ-5D has recently been shown to have good validity and moderate reliability in Taiwanese populations [18]. We applied the value systems of the Taiwan version using the time trade-off method [19].…”
