Estimates of Genetic and Environmental Components of Serum Isocitrate Dehydrogenase (ICDH) in Normal Twins

Abstract: Environmental (b2) and genetic heritability (h2) of serum isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH) were estimated in 96 pairs of healthy twins according to a path analysis model. The results showed significant heritability (0.42) and a very low environmental component (based on obesity and level of habitual physical activity), suggesting that these factors do not influence ICDH serum activity.

“…Only five studies (0.2%) headed by Brazilian researchers were included in this meta-analysis and none are from the area of psychology. The studies were from the areas of genetics (Jacques, Salzano & Penña, 1977, Rapaport, Colletto, Vainzof & Zatz, 1991, medicine (Custodio et al, 2007), and physical education (Reis et al, 2007, Machado et al, 2010. This warrants attention considering that psychological traits were highly represented among those investigated in the meta-analysis (e.g., temperament and personality, social interactions, cognitive functions).…”

“…At our request, the author who coordinated the meta-analysis (Polderman et al, 2015) sent us the list of Brazilian studies, showing that they had been carried out in the fields of genetics (Callegari Jacques et al, 1977, Rapaport et al, 1991), medicine (Custodio et al, 2007), odontology (Bretz, Corby, Hart et al, 2005; Bretz. Corby, Schork et al, 2005; Bretz et al, 2006; Bretz et al, 2011; Su et al, 2008), and physical education (Machado et al, 2010; Reis et al, 2007).…”

“…From 2748 publications, only five studies were conducted by Brazilian researchers in comparison with the United States (947), United Kingdom (377) and Australia (259). These few Brazilian studies were from the areas of genetics (Jacques et al, 1977, Rapaport et al, 1991, medicine (Custodio et al, 2007), and physical education (Machado et al, 2010;Reis et al, 2007). No Brazilian psychological research was included in the meta-analysis, which is remarkable, especially considering that among the most studied issues (according to the meta-analysis) were topics related to behavioral problems, cognition, and social interaction.…”
