“…In South Africa, 50% of S. serrata males sampled in the estuary with a mean size of 9.2 cm CW were found to have sperm, but mating (based on scars on the first pair of walking legs) occurred only in males ranging from 13.1-17.3 cm CW (Robertson and Kruger 1994). S. serrata females become sexually mature at 11.5-18.7 cm CW (Robertson and Kruger 1994), S. paramamosain at 10.1-13.9 cm CW (Overton and Macintosh 2002), and S. olivacea at 8.3-11.8 cm CW (Le Vay 2001;Overton and Macintosh 2002;Jirapunpipat 2008). The smallest S. serrata males with scars on the sternum and merus of the first walking leg as indicator of mating were about 12.5 cm CW (Knuckey 1996).…”

“…Então, o uso de mais do que um método para determinar o tamanho da maturidade parece ser apropriado, particularmente se estes métodos são utilizados para estipular o tamanho mínimo legal de espécies explotadas comercialmente (HAEFNER, 1990;ALUNNO-BRUSCIA & SAINTE-MARIE, 1998;OVERTON & MACINTOSH, 2002;LEME, 2005).…”

“…Therefore, the use of more than one method to determine size at maturity appears to be appropriate, particularly if these methods are to be used to stipulate the minimum legal size of commercially exploited species (HAEFNER 1990, ALUNNO-BRUSCIA & SAINTE-MARIE 1998, OVERTON & MACINTOSH 2002.…”
