Estimate ofd?- production in protonproton collisions

Abstract: Abstract. An estimate of the cross section for the production of a narrow isosinglet 0 -dibaryon (d') resonance in pp-collisions is given. This cross section is shown to be in the range of a few /zb at incident energies close to threshold. The resonance parameters used are those obtained from a recent analysis of pionic double charge exchange data which at low pion energies clearty exhibit features in accordance with the existence of d'.

“…On the 3s level the new data, which comprise an order of magnitude better statistics, provide no evidence for narrow pNN resonances and give an upper limit of about 20 nb for their production cross section in this reaction. This limit is 2 orders of magnitude below the previous prediction [17]. Before discussing in detail the features emerging from the measurement of the differential cross sections, we shortly review the possible reaction mechanisms of the p 1 p 2 production process.…”

“…[17] for the FSI we arrive at a value of G spread ഠ 7 MeV from pion exchange, if the surrounding medium has nuclear matter density. Assuming s and p coupling constants are equal on the quark level, we obtain a spreading contribution from s exchange comparable to that from p exchange.…”

“…In this work the resonance contribution to the np → npπ 0 π 0 reaction was calculated in analogy to that for the np → dπ 0 π 0 reaction, only that three-body phasespace is replaced by a four-body phase space and the condition for the momenta of the emitted nucleons to be in accord with the deuteron wave function is replaced by the requirement that the emerging np pair undergoes a final-state interaction chosen to be of Migdal-Watson type [49][50][51]:…”
