Esthetic Rehabilitation Using Magnet-Retained Cheek Plumper Prosthesis

Abstract: Summary. Prosthetic rehabilitation of a completely edentulous patient is no more confined to replacement of missing teeth. Long span of edentulism and ageing leads to loss of support of the facial musculature, which is of great concern in treating completely edentulous patients. Flaccid facial musculature eventually leads to sunken cheeks and unesthetic appearance, causing a negative impact on psychological well-being of the patient. The use of conventional complete dentures can restore the loss to some extent… Show more

“…Facial aging is characterized by wrinkles, sagging skin, and a decrease in the amount of fat and elasticity in the face, particularly in the cheeks and surrounding tissue, which usually results in subzygomatic arch depression (Rewari et al, 2020). Wrinkles can be treated using botulinum neurotoxin injections, however, volume loss caused by the aging process is primarily treated with dermal filler injections (Yi et al, 2021; Yi, Lee, Hu, & Kim, 2022a, 2022b; Yi, Lee, Kim, Yoon, et al, 2022; Yi, Lee, Lee, Hu, et al, 2022).…”

“…Facial aging, marked by facial sagging and volume loss, especially loss of subcutaneous and deep compartment fasts, produces subzygomatic arch depression (Rewari et al, 2020; Yi, Lee, Hur, Seo, & Kim, 2022). It does not only result in aging and fatigue, but also causes a protrusion of the zygomatic arch and zygoma.…”

“…Subzygomatic arch depression frequently manifests in elderly individuals as a result of masseter muscle and fat atrophy. 1 , 2 Nonetheless, this depression may also appear prominent in younger individuals with well‐defined zygomatic arches. Literature on managing subzygomatic arch depression is sparse, leaving a gap in understanding optimal treatment approaches.…”
