Establishment of the Shear Stresses Acting on the Solid Bed Surrounded by Flowing Melt

Abstract: On single-screw extruders, a solid bed break-up can produce a pulsating melt output and poor melt homogeneity on account of isolated, non-melted particles wandering around in the melt. The break-up of the bed is caused by excessive forces acting on the compacted solid bed.
