Establishing psychiatric attachments to general practice: a six stage plan

Abstract: Since the 1970s there has been a growing trend for psychiatrists to establish formal attachments to primary care and these now form an important component of community psychiatry (Strathdee & Williams, 1984). In this paper a six stage plan for the establishment of a psychiatric attachment is proposed. The framework outlined may be modified in the light of local service, training and research needs.
