Essentials of bladder cancer worldwide: incidence, mortality rate and risk factors

Abstract: Bladder cancer (BC) is the sixth most common cancer in the world. An increase in the incidence and recurrence of BC has led to massive pressure on health care systems. Studies have shown that the geographical and ethical distributions of BC are variable in different parts of the world. However, most studies have focused more on clinical challenges and treatment strategies in BC management. Due to the limited number of studies conducted on the incidence rate, mortality and risk factors of BC worldwide, it is ne… Show more

“…According to literature, Bulgaria is the only country where males had a significant increase in both incidence and mortality (Wong et al ,2018). In our study, we also established the ratio between man and women was 3.2:1, and the average age of the patients with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder is 70.14 years on average, which is similar to the results of almost all published studies (Horstmann et al, 2008;Gandomani et al, 2017).…”

“…Despite the advances in the treatment of colon cancer in the last decades, the growing death rate is still statistically remarkable in the patients 23 . It was demonstrated that NRF2 is an upstream transcriptional activator of PDL1 which regulates its expression 14 .…”

“…However, few of the genetic prognostic biomarkers for bladder cancer had been developed utilizing their clonal or sub-clonal states in large cohorts of patients with different genetic background, despite of the well-documented disparities in bladder cancer risk and survival across races/ethnics in epidemiological studies 10 . Whites are more than twice likely to develop bladder cancer than Blacks while Asian Americans have lower risk of developing bladder cancer than Whites and Blacks 11 . The clinical outcomes of bladder cancer also exhibit racial disparities with shorter survival observed in Blacks 10 .…”
