Essential Oils of TwoAchilleaSpecies from Turkey

Abstract: The oils of Achilles coarctata Poir and Aclzillea oligoceplzala DC. were analyzed by GC and GCIMS. The oil of A. coarctata Poir contained 1,8-cineole (20.1%), camphor (15.6%) and viridiflorol (11.8 %), while the oil of A. oligocepliala DC. contained 1,8-cineole (18.6%), a-terpineol(fi.X%) and lindool (6.0%) as inajor Components.

“…It has been described in about one-third of the species at least in one case as main component (Table II). Besides results summarized in the table, 1,8-cineole was detected in the oils of some further species, such as A. oligochala (14), A. teretifolia (15) and A. compacta (16).…”

“…is a perennial herb restricted to the Balkan Peninsula, south Ukraine and Asia Minor. Until now, there are only a few reports regarding the chemical composition of A. coarctata essential oil collected from different geographical areas [12][13][14][15]. Having in mind the differences in available data of the essential oil and the general importance of the genus Achillea, the aim of this study was to perform a more detailed chemical analysis (GC-MS) of the essential oil composition, as well as the headspace volatiles profile of A. coarctata collected in Serbia.…”

“…Tzakou et al analyzed the essential oil of A. coarctata from Greece and noted 1,8-cineole (26.9%, 29.1%), camphor (22.1%, 9.2%) and borneol (5.0%, 6.8%) as the most dominant components of inflorescence and leaf oils, respectively [13]. Two of the reports represent essential oil compositions of A. coarctata from Turkey; the main constituents were: 1,8-cineole (20.1%), camphor (15.6%) and viridiflorol (11.8%), as well as viridiflorol (25.9%), camphor (9.8%) and caryophyllene oxide (9.6%) [14][15].…”

“…Our results agree with other literatures, monoterpenes are the principal components of Achillea essential oils (Zeedan, et al, 2014;Mottaghi, et al, 2016). Furthermore, 1, 8-cineole (20.1%), camphor (15.6%), and viridiflorol (11.8%) the three most abundant monoterpene components (Toker, et al, 2003).…”
