Essential Oils from Fruits with Different Colors and Leaves ofNeomitranthes obscura(DC.) N. Silveira: An Endemic Species from Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Abstract: Neomitranthes obscura (DC.) N. Silveira is an endemic plant of Brazilian Atlantic Forest and widely spread in the sandbanks of “Restinga de Jurubatiba” National Park. It is popularly known by local population as “camboim-de-cachorro” or “cambuí-preto” and recognized by its black ripe fruits. However, specimens with yellow ripe fruits were localized in the “Restinga de Jurubatiba” National Park. The aim of the present study was to evaluate chemical composition of essential oils obtained from leaves and fruits o… Show more

“…Other studies compared the EO of N. obscura in leaves and fruits and described chemical profiles with selin-3.7(11)-diene, trans-dauca-4(11)7-diene, β-caryophyllene, germacrene B, α, and β selinenes. These results reinforce the findings in our work with the presence of seline-3,7-(11)-diene, selinene fractions, β-caryophyllene, and germacrene B (Amaral et al, 2013;Amaral et al, 2014).…”

“…Likewise, minor substances such as the monoterpenes α-pinene and β-pinene are possibly relevant to the chemical profile and bioactivity of the species. Variations between products of metabolism among individuals of the same species are common due to different environmental pressures, which result in different metabolic expression pathways (Amaral et al, 2013;Amaral et al, 2014).…”

“…The material was hydrodistillated for 4h in 5.0 L round-bottom flask in a Clevenger-type apparatus. Residual water was removed by filtration with sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and the EO obtained was stored at 4 °C until further analysis (Amaral et al, 2013). The essential oil composition was then analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis and flame ionization gas chromatography (Gonzalez et al, 2014, Adams, 2007.…”

“…The fruits of three different cultivars of A. subulatum such as Sawney, Seremna, and Varlangy were obtained from Spice Board, ICRI (Indian Cardamom Research Institute), Tadong (Sikkim, India), in the month of November 2016. The hydrodistillation method was used for the extraction of essential oil from three cultivars of Sawney, Seremna, and Varlangy [15]. For each cultivar, 50 g fine powdered were taken for extraction of oil from each cultivar separately for the time of 4 h. The extracted samples were dried by mixing the sodium sulfate (anhydrous) and stored at 4°C for further study.…”
