“…Parents were equally considered specialist knowledge agents and actors (Benn et al, 2008) as their opinions and experiences (Gilgun and Abrams, 2002) influenced the effectiveness of school anti-bullying practices, and the development and application of anti-bullying practices policy in the school. The research used a semi-structured interview conducted with parents, which provided an appropriate element of context (Carroll and Rothe 2010) and flexibility (Cassell and Symon, 2004) and this was further aided by applying an inductive/theory building approach (Glaser and Strauss, 1967). Given the lack of appropriately focused research in this area, this methodology is seen as suitable for creating contextual data for the International Journal of Education ISSN 1948-5476 2012 purpose of forming richer theory development (Cayla and Eckhardt, 2007).…”

“…However, aggregation of common patterns/themes is not a deviation from the context of the data because the patterns and themes are grounded in the data; that is on how managers make sense of training information which they intend to transfer (Cassell & Walsh, 2004;Cassell, Close, Duberly & Johnson, 2000). Therefore, the patterns in the responses, themes and categories generated were done within the context of the mangers' responses which reflected ISSN 2162-3058 2014 their work and training experiences.…”

“…The small sample size of 12 managers limits generalization of the findings across managers and in other organizational settings. Nevertheless, in a qualitative study with in-depth interviews in organizations, a small sample size of twelve (12) managers is considered appropriate for theoretical conclusions to be drawn (Brewerton & Milward, 2001;Cassell & Walsh, 2004;Fromm, 2004;Milward, Asumeng & McDowall, 2010).…”

“…The research paradigm adopted is qualitative and exploratory because the topic had not been previously investigated, in line with social science research methods (see for example Bryman, 2012, Cassell and Symon, 2004, Corbin, 1998, Cranfield, 2009and Flick 2007). …”
