Escher-FBA: a web application for interactive flux balance analysis

Abstract: BackgroundFlux balance analysis (FBA) is a widely-used method for analyzing metabolic networks. However, most existing tools that implement FBA require downloading software and writing code. Furthermore, FBA generates predictions for metabolic networks with thousands of components, so meaningful changes in FBA solutions can be difficult to identify. These challenges make it difficult for beginners to learn how FBA works.ResultsTo meet this need, we present Escher-FBA, a web application for interactive FBA simu… Show more

“…Flux maps were created using Escher web application (https://escher.github.io/#/). 72,73 It has also been observed previously that deficiency in glucose and glutamine impairs CD4+ T cell activation and proliferation. 74,75 We performed this experiment in silico, whereby we varied the flux through exchange reactions of glucose (EX_glc[e]) and glutamine (EX_gln_L[e]) in the models and analyzed the effect on growth rate.…”

“…Thus, we obtained the flux distribution of metabolic pathways under wild-type conditions using Flux Balance Analysis (FBA) and searched the non-zero fluxes through the aforementioned pathways in all the models. Flux maps were created using Escher web application ( https://escher.github.io/#/ ) 78 , 79 . It has also been observed previously that deficiency in glucose and glutamine impairs CD4 + T-cell activation and proliferation 37 , 80 .…”
