Abstract: RESUMENEn este estudio se tuvo como objetivo poner a disposición la Escala de Esperanza de Herth adaptada y validada para el idioma portugués en un estudio realizado en pacientes con enfermedad crónica. La escala se originó del instrumento americano Herth Hope Index y posibilitó la existencia de un instrumento específico para la mensuración de la esperanza, antes inexistente en el Brasil.
