In this study, it was aimed to introduce the Bootstrap technique and to reveal the relationship between measurements of yolk color fan grades and digital colorimeter that is used for determining the yellow color of egg by utilizing this technique. For this purpose, a total of 1350 samples of 15 color grades of Roche yolk color fan and L* (lightness), a* (redness), b* (yellowness) values in the same samples were compared. The means, standard errors and confidence intervals for each color parameters of fan grades have been demonstrated by the Bootstrap technique. The grades of Roche yolk color fan in terms of L* values have been divided into 10 groups (P<0.01), while only divided into 9 groups in terms of b* values (P<0.01). According to the means of Redness (a*), all of the Roche yolk color fan grades (15 grades) have been determined as independent from each other (P<0.01). With the Bootstrap method, the standard error values of means were decreased by 42.03%, 35.38% and 30.24%, respectively, and the confidence intervals were narrowed by the ratio of 42.03%, 35.38% and 30.24%, respectively. The results of the study were compared with the results of the study that was conducted by using Roche yolk color fan which is cheaper but less reliable and by using digital colorimeter method which is expensive but reliable. Keywords: Bootstrapping, Resampling, Egg yolk color fan, Digital colorimeter Hayvancılık Alanında Bootstrap Tekniğinin Bir Uygulaması: Yumurta Sarı Rengi Örneği ÖzetBu çalışmada Bootstrap tekniğinin tanıtılması ve bu metottan faydalanarak yumurta sarı renginin belirlenmesinde kullanılan yumurta sarı renk yelpazesi ve dijital renk ölçüm cihazı ölçümleri arasındaki ilişkinin ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla Roche sarı renk yelpazesinin 15 renk sınıfına ait toplam 1350 örnek ile aynı örneklerde ölçülen L* (parlaklık), a* (kırmızılık), b* (sarılık) değerleri karşılaştırılmıştır. Yelpaze sınıflarının her renk parametresine ait ortalamaları, standart hataları ve güven aralıkları Bootstrap tekniğiyle ortaya konulmuştur. L* değerleri bakımından Roche sarı renk yelpazesi 10 gruba ayrılırken (P<0.01), b* değerleri bakımından sınıflar sadece 9 gruba ayrılmıştır (P<0.01). Kırmızılık (a*) ortalamalarına göre ise Roche sarı renk yelpaze sınıflarının tümü (15 sınıf ) birbirinden bağımsız olarak tanımlanabilmiştir (P<0.01). Bootstrap yöntemi ile L*, a* ve b* ortalamalarının standart hata değerleri sırasıyla 42.03%, 35.38% ve 30.24% azalmış, güven aralıkları 48.10%, 55.43%, 34.47% oranlarında daralmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar kullanılarak mevcut literatürde daha ucuz ama güvenilirliği düşük olan Roche sarı renk yelpazesi ile yapılan çalışmalar ve pahalı ama güvenilir yöntem olan dijital renk ölçüm cihazı kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen çalışma sonuçları karşılaştırılmıştır.

This study reports potential causes of diarrhea in neonatal calves, leading to calf mortality, from the selected population of the three Provinces of Turkey. A total of 300 fecal samples were collected purposively from diarrheic neonatal calves distributed to the three age groups (1–14 days, 15–29 days, and 30–90 days), from Konya, Karaman, and Aksaray Provinces of Turkey. The fecal specimens were examined for the existence of Cryptosporidium spp., rotavirus, coronavirus, and Escherichia coli by commercially available capture direct enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. The oocysts and coproantigens of Cryptosporidium were identified in 109 (36.3%) and 156 (52%) of the 300 calves, respectively. While, rotavirus, E. coli and coronavirus antigens were detected (P<0.05) in 57 (19%), 17 (5.6%) and 6 (2%) calves, respectively. Mixed infection of the study pathogens has also been found in this report. These results provide a baseline information on the frequent causes of neonatal calf diarrhea in the studied Provinces which can be used to develop a prophylaxis plan.

Molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium has led to increased recognition of the diversity of species infecting animals. A Cryptosporidium Copro-Enzyme Linked Immuno Assay (Copro-ELISA) antigen detection manufactured by Savyon® Diagnostics Ltd., Ashdod, Israel, was used to screen faecal samples from cattle. Copro-ELISA Cryptosporidium antigen positive faecal samples were subjected to Nested PCR for the amplification of 830bp fragments of small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene and followed by nucleotide sequencing by targeting the 18S gene in cattle. Of the 384 bovine faeces screened, 31 (8.07%) were ELISA positive out of the 384 screened samples and 19.4% (6/31) were Cryptosporidium positive using PCR technique. Nucleotide sequencing of the bovine PCR products showed the presence of C. bovis 2 (6.5%), C. ryanae 2 (6.5%), C. andersoni 1 (3.2%) and C. ubiquitum 1(3.2%). C. ubiquitum has also been found in this study in Wurno LGA of Sokoto state, it is a new specie in the genus previously identified as Cryptosporidium Cervine genotype which was reported in wild and domestic ruminants, rodents, carnivores and primates including humans. In calves, there were no significant associations (p>0.05) in prevalence of Cryptosporidium between breeds; between sources of drinking water; between physical nature of faeces (OR=3.61:95% CI on OR: 0.36<OR<34.71); between management practices (OR=1.71: 95% CI on OR: 0.26<OR<11.41) and between sexes (OR=0.58: 95% CI on OR: 0.08<OR<3.88). Absence of the zoonotic spp (C. parvum) in the area suggests that the age group of calves studied are not likely to be source of human cryptosporidiosis.
