Erythrocyte aggregation and metabolic syndrome

Abstract: Erythrocyte aggregation has been consistently associated with insulin resistance, central obesity and hypertension in the literature. Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are almost always present in metabolic syndrome (MetS). Prooxidants and adipocytokines generated in MetS alter erythrocyte morphology, decrease erythrocyte deformability and increase whole blood viscosity (WBV). Increased WBV has been attributed to erythrocyte aggregation which in turn is greatly influenced by other rheological parameter… Show more

“…Surface receptor complex CD41/61 and PAC1 are members of a family of heterodimeric adhesive protein receptors and the cytoadhesion is expressed in type 2 diabetes with platelet hyperactivity. The interplay of hemorheological factors, oxidative stress and inflammation has a detrimental effect in diabetes due to the gross disturbance in microcirculation [13]. Platelets upon activation engage themselves in dynamic interaction with other blood cells mainly Red blood cells (RBCs) that affects platelet aggregation involved in primary hemostasis.…”

“…На сегодняшний день важная роль нарушения поверхностного заряда эритроцитов в процессах атерогенеза не подвергается сомнению [11,12], однако работ по изучению состояния этого показателя при МС в доступной нам литературе не встретилось. Вместе с тем, известно, что электрический потенциал эритро-цитов, являясь одним из ключевых регуляторов агрегатного состояния крови и ее реологических свойств, играет значительную роль в микроциркуляторном кровотоке.…”

“…Arterial hypertension (AH) is a chronic disease characterized by persistently high arterial pressure. Under this disease the microrheological properties of blood become changed, which essentially affects the blood flow in the vessels [23,24,25]. Usually, the patients with AH suffer from concomitant diseases, e.g., in the case of metabolic syndrome [26].…”
