“…An erythema-multiforme-like eruption was observed in a 31year-old woman after a 'herbal bag' had been applied for back pain; patch tests with Inula helenium were positive, demonstrating the responsibility of this compound [32]. “…The allergens were licorice root ( Glycyrrhiza uralensis ) and probably elecampane, though the use of high patch test concentrations of elecampane extracts introduced an element of possible irritation (69). Gil Mateo et al reported a case of acute eczema due to a ‘herbal bag’, and Pazzaglia et al another case of dermatitis due to a herbal massage liniment (13, 70). Both patients were positive to the SL mix and alantolactone; the latter patient may also have been sensitized to burdock milfoil or bay leaf present in the massage liniment, but was not tested with these (13).…”

“…Tincture of capsicum caused an analogous reaction in a woman who used the concoction to treat her knee arthritis [18]. Inula helenium , contained in a mixture to treat back pain, has also induced erythema multiforme-like eruption, with positive patch tests to sesquiterpene lactone mix and alantolactone [19]. Notably, Primula obconica can also induce comparable eruptions [2023].…”
