“…Ormsby [1933] presented a case of gyrate erythema, which histological ly was diagnosed as subacute LE. Lesions, clinically resembling erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC), often turned out to be SCLE on histologic examination [Irgang, 1957] and clinical SCLE was histologically compatible with EAC [Ellis and Friedman, 1954]. Rekant and Becker [1973[ suggested that EAC was probably a manifestation of LE.…”

“…Reviewing the literature [Ormsby, 1933;Ellis and Friedman, 1954;Irgang, 1957], much confusion has emerged in differentiating gyrate erythemas from subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE). We want to present a case of a breast cancer in association with a gyrate erythema strongly resembling SCLE.…”

“…Erythema annulare centrifugum of Daricr (1916), by contrast, has been related not only to benign or malignant tumours (Herzberg & Seelemann, 1953;Lazar, 1963;Dupre et al, i979)) but also on occasion to hypersensitivity to Penicillium (Shelley, 1964) or to a dermatophyte (Jillson, 1954). Erythema annulare centrifugum has, furthermore, been documented in association with systemic or chronic LE (Ellis & Friedman, 1954;Irgang, 1957;Rekant & Becker, 1973;Baccareda, 1974;Heid era/., 1977), and may also occur during the course of LE as an adverse reaction to antimalarial therapy (Grupper, 1957;Ashurt, 1967). Neither EGR nor EAC, however, demonstrate the classical histological changes of LE which are found in LEGR.…”

“…The term erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) was proposed by Darier in 1916, describing a persistent annular erythema [7]. Regarding the epidemiology, EAC can occur at any age with a peak incidence in the mid‐adult life and an equal male to female ratio.…”
