“…Occasionally, fragmented vellus hair shafts may be seen within the cyst. However, cases with overlapping pathological features between SCM and EVHC exist [7] and are often referred to as ‘hybrid cysts’ [11]; in addition, some patients reportedly have lesions of both SCM and EVHC [12]. It has therefore been proposed that EVHC and SCM are variants of one disorder originating in the pilosebaceous duct [9].…”

“…Whereas most clinical simulators of EVHC can be differentiated histologically, the distinction from SCM may be delicate. The relationship between the two conditions has been debated as they share similarities regarding age of onset, localization, clinical appearance and mode of inheritance [2], so that some authors regard them as variants of one entity [7]. However, typical EVHC and SCM usually display different clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features [10].…”

“…39 This entity shares a close histologic relationship with eruptive vellus hair cysts. [40][41][42][43] Gross: Yellow to tan papules or cysts with a smooth surface. The lesion has a predilection for the chest and the extensor surfaces of the proximal extremities but can be found in the axilla, groin, scrotum and less frequently on other epidermal surfaces.…”
