‘Eruptive syringoma’: a misnomer for a reactive eccrine gland ductal proliferation?

Abstract

Based on our observations, some of the so-called 'eruptive syringoma' may represent a hyperplastic response of the eccrine duct to an inflammatory reaction rather than a true adnexal neoplasm. We proposed the term 'syringomatous dermatitis' for such cases.

Eruptive syringomas in association with severe periodontal disease

Remarkably, the onset of the disease in our patient followed a smallpox infection, a fact that can be contributed to the hypothesis that eruptive syringomas are sequelae to a reactive hyperplasia of the sweat glands accompanying inflammatory processes (11). The histological differential diagnosis ruled out milia, microcystic adnexalcarcinoma, and desmoplastic trichoepithelioma.…”
