Eruptive pseudoangiomatosis in adults with immune system disorders: A report of two cases

Abstract: Eruptive pseudoangiomatosis is a cutaneous disease of unknown origin, characterized by the sudden appearance of small, asymptomatic angioma-like erythematous papules surrounded by a pale halo that resolves spontaneously. It occurs due to transitory dermal blood vessel dilation and has been associated with viral infections and hematologic disorders. To this day, it remains a disease that affects mostly the lower spectrum of life. Most of the cases have been reported in children and few reports have described it… Show more

“…In the present study, the most affected patients were in the first decade of life, followed by those in the second decade. Thus, the disease usually affects those in the lower spectrum of life, as described by González et al [6] and others [7,8]. This may potentiate the viral etiology in the pathogenesis of the disease because children and young age groups are more susceptible to viral infections because their immunity remains not built well enough against these particles.…”

“…The diagnosis of EPA mainly depends on its characteristic clinical features. Histopathological examination is not pathognomonic yet may exclude other diseases resembling it [6]. The histopathological features consist of dermal blood vessel dilatation with plump endothelial lining with perivascular infiltration of lymphocytes [22].…”

“…In adults, it is strongly associated with immunosuppressed states; such as kidney transplantation, haematological malignancies and elderly patients. 4 Haematogenous dissemination of the causative virus following inoculation leads to prodromal symptoms followed by an exanthem in children, while re‐infection under immunosuppressed conditions probably results in proliferation of the causative agent in adults. 1 The rash is mostly asymptomatic or may be associated with mild pruritus.…”
