Abstract:MRI sections of the brain in the coronal plane through the line joining the anterior commissure and the mamillary bodies display the constituent parts of the basal forebrain. The visualisation of the septal nuclei and the anterior columns of the fornix show the importance of this plane in the study of behaviour disorders and amnesic syndromes.
Functional anatomy and comparative anatomy are described. The anterior commissure can be involved in various pathologies such as diffuse axonal injury, schizophrenia, and cerebral tumoral dissemination.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
