Erratum: Unexpected enhancements and reductions of rf spin resonance strengths [Phys. Rev. ST Accel. Beams9, 051001 (2006)]

Abstract: We found an error in the header of Table I. In the last column, the E FS =E Bdl ratio should not have a ( 10 ÿ6 ) factor. We apologize for our error; it does not affect any numbers or figures in the original text.PHYSICAL REVIEW SPECIAL TOPICS -ACCELERATORS AND BEAMS 9, 089901 (2006) 1098-4402=06=9(8)=089901 (1) 089901-1

“…The spin tune s , which is the number of spin precessions during one turn around the ring, is proportional to the particle's energy; s G, where G g ÿ 2=2 is its gyromagnetic anomaly and is its Lorentz energy factor. Horizontal rf magnetic fields can induce an rf spin resonance [6,9,10], which can be used to spin-manipulate the stored particles [11][12][13][14][15][16]. For deuterons, the rf-induced spin resonance's frequency is…”

“…Concomitant with the acceleration and storage of polarized beams, the use of spin flippers is a recognized tool to aid in the reduction of systematic errors in experiments using stored polarized beams. In a recent paper, Shatunov and Mane [3] fitted experimental measurements of spin flip resonance widths using a radial field rf dipole spin flipper at the COSY storage ring, for both polarized protons [4] and deuterons [5]. A fit to the deuteron data only was also published by Kondratenko et al [6].…”

“…However, the values of the resonance strengths in the above studies were published in a compilation of spin flip measurements in Ref. [4], and I take my data from this latter reference. Note that the compilation in Ref.…”

“…The spin tune s (the number of spin precessions during one turn around the ring) is proportional to the particle's energy: s ¼ G, where G ¼ ðg À 2Þ=2 is its gyromagnetic anomaly and is its Lorentz energy factor. The vertical polarization can be perturbed by any horizontal magnetic field [6,[22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. RF magnetic fields can induce rf spin resonances.…”
