Based on QCD sum rules we explore the consequences of a pure chiral restoration scenario for the ρ meson, where all chiral symmetry breaking condensates are dropped whereas the chirally symmetric condensates remain at their vacuum values. This pure chiral restoration scenario causes the drop of the ρ spectral moment by about 120 MeV. The complementarity of mass shift and broadening is discussed. A simple parametrization of the ρ spectral function leads to a width of about 600 MeV if no shift of the peak position is assumed.

In these lectures I will show some results obtained with the chiral unitary approach applied to the photo and electroproduction of mesons. The results for photoproduction of ηπ 0 p and K 0 π 0 Σ + , together with related reactions will be shown, having with common denominator the excitation of the ∆(1700) resonance which is one of those dynamically generated in the chiral unitary approach. Then I will show results obtained for the e + e − → φf 0 (980) reaction which reproduce the bulk of the data except for a pronounced peak, giving support to a new mesonic resonance, X(2175). Results will also be shown for the electromagnetic form factors of the N * (1535) resonance, also dynamically generated in this approach. Finally, I will show some results on the photoproduction of the ω in nuclei, showing that present experimental results claiming a shift of the ω mass in the medium are tied to a particular choice of background and are not conclusive. On the other hand, the same experimental results show unambiguously a huge increase of the ω width in the nuclear medium.

We study IJ P = 0 3 2 ± and 1 3 2 ± pentaquark states with S = +1 in the QCD sum rule approach.The QCD sum rule for positive parity states and that for negative parity are independently derived.The sum rule suggests that there exist the 0 3 2 − and the 1 3 2 − states. These states may be observed as extremely narrow peaks since they can be much below the S-wave threshold and since the only allowed decay channels are N K in D-wave, whose centrifugal barriers are so large that the widths are strongly suppressed. The 0 3 2 − state may be assigned to the observed Θ + (1540) and the 1 3 2 − state can be a candidate for Θ ++ .
