Erratum: Formation of galaxies and large-scale structure with cold dark matter

Abstract: 2 3 4 5 6 2 3 4 5 6 Fig. 3 Phosphorylation of the myosin light chain is unaffected by replacement of sodium chloride with choline chloride and sodium channel blockers. Platelets were preincubated with labelled phosphate as Fig. 2 and then gel filtered either in buffer A, or in buffer A with the sodium chloride replaced with choline chloride plus I mM amiloride. To the experimental samples, 2 ILM tetrodotoxin was added also for 10 min before adding thrombin or placing the platelets at 5 oc for I h. Left panel, … Show more

“…In the ΛCDM scenario, dwarf galaxies are the building blocks from which larger galaxies are formed (Blumenthal et al 1985;Dekel & Silk 1986;Navarro, Frenk & White 1995;Moore et al 1998). The dwarfs we observe today may be surviving systems that E-mail: adpm@camk.edu.pl…”

“…In the standard pictures, we now think of galaxies as inhabiting haloes of Cold Dark Matter (CDM), a non-baryonic component that dominates the dynamics and sets the scene for galaxy formation (Blumenthal et al 1985;Ostriker 1993). The most fundamental of observations supporting this picture is the 'flat rotation curves' of disc galaxies (Rubin & Ford 1970;Roberts & Rots 1973;Rubin, Thonnard, & Ford 1978).…”

“…Precisely for this reason, their deep understanding could strongly influence the theories of galaxy formation and evolution. In the Λ cold dark matter (ΛCDM) scenario dwarf galaxies are building blocks of larger systems (Blumenthal et al 1985, Navarro et al 1997. Seen in this light, they are the survivors of early merging processes that led to the formation of bigger galaxies such as the Milky Way (MW).…”
