Eriodictyol-induced anti-cancer and apoptotic effects in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells are associated with cell cycle arrest and modulation of apoptosis-related proteins

Abstract: <p class="Abstract">The objective of the present study was to investigate the anti-cancer effects of eriodictyol in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (Hep-G2) and normal liver hepatocyte cell line (AML12) along with evaluating its mode of action. Sulforhodamine B assay was used to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of the compound while as fluorescence microscopy was involved to demonstrate the effect of eriodictyol on cellular apoptosis. Flow cytometry was used to investigate the effect of eriodictyol on … Show more

“…PARP plays an important role in DNA repair and is one of the markers of mitochondria-mediated apoptosis [28]. Moreover, eriodictyol induces apoptosis through cleavage of PARP in human hepatocellular carcinoma Hep-G2 cells [23]. Our results are consistent with studies carried out previous.…”

“…f.) [19], sutil lemon (Citrus aurantiifolia) [20], and bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia Risso) [21]. Eriodictyol has anticancer effects in liver, lung, and colorectal cancer cells [22][23][24], but its effects in pancreatic cancer remain unknown. Hence, in this study, we investigated the mechanisms associated with the anticancer effect of eriodictyol in pancreatic cancer cells.…”

“…Cordycepin targets integrin, focal adhesion kinase (FAK), c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK), PI3K/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/ heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1)/nuclear factor kappa-light-chainenhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK), Fas, B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), caspase, and C-X-C motif chemokine receptor (CXCR) 4 cascades, thereby leading to the repression of angiogenesis, metastasis, EMT, proliferation, viability, and invasion of LC cells [147][148][149][150][151][152][153]. Eriodyctiol induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of LC cells by targeting the poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP), Bcl-2, and BCL2-associated X (Bax) signaling [154]. Isorhamnetin and β-sitosterol suppress the survival, viability, and proliferation of LC cells [155,156].…”
