Eriodictyol, a plant flavonoid, attenuates LPS-induced acute lung injury through its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity

Abstract: Abstract. Acute lung injury (ALI) is characterized by excessive inflammatory responses and oxidative injury in the lung tissue. It has been suggested that anti-inflammatory or antioxidative agents could have therapeutic effects in ALI, and eriodictyol has been reported to exhibit antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eriodictyol on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI in a mouse model. The mice were divided into four groups: Phospha… Show more

“…The inflammatory response is initiated, amplified and regulated by a complex network of cytokines and other pro-inflammatory cytokines (3). Pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and macrophage inflammatory protein 2 (MIP2) have been demonstrated to have a role in the pathogenesis of ALI (4). Exaggerated neutrophilic infiltration is responsible for the damage of alveolar-capillary barrier (5), resulting in the non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema.…”
