Ergostane-Type Sterols From Several Cordyceps Strains

Abstract: Ergosterol is an essential component for fungi, including entomopathogenic fungi like Cordyceps. Cordyceps has been used as a traditional medicine in Japan and China and possesses various unique ergostane-type sterols, those exhibit bioactivities. In this manuscript, we reported the isolation of 2 new ergostane-type sterols, 1 and 2 along with ten sterols (3-12) from 7 strains of Cordyceps related fungal strains, Cordyceps takaomontana NBRC 101754, Metarhizium owariense NBRC 33258, Polycephalomyces formosus NB… Show more

“…Similar to those of compounds (1) and (2) , the spectral data of (3) were indicative of an ergostane structure, which entirely shared identities to the published literature by [ 26 ]. Thus, the structure of (3β,5α,22E)-ergosta-6,8(14),22-triene- 3,5-diol was proposed for compound (3) ( Figure 2 ).…”

“…Ergosta-7, 9 (11), 22-Trien-3β-ol (EK100) EK100 (C 28 H 44 O; MW 396.64 g/mol) is a derivative of fungal ergosterol. Ergosterols are the active components of Cordyceps and have important therapeutic activities, such as analgesic, antimicrobial, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, and immunomodulatory activities [129,[198][199][200][201][202][203].…”
