The prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) is very important in the world. Governments and companies are the most interested. The objective of the present work is to review the literature on the applications of the OWAS method in the diverse sectors or fields of knowledge and countries from its publication to March 2017. The use of OWAS method has been classified by categories of knowledge, by country and by year. The search was made by selecting only the main collection of the Web of Science. This was selected by the option “Advanced search” using the term OWAS (ts=OWAS) for the time period of 1900 to 2017. A total of 166 results were found, consisting of conference papers and articles in scientific journals. In conclusion, the OWAS has been applied mainly in two sectors: “Manufacturing industries” and “Healthcare and Social assistance activities”. This method needs to be complemented with other indirect or direct methods. Also, whenever the OWAS has been used, whether individually or together with other methods, musculoskeletal disorders risks have been detected, this perhaps being an indicator to review the evaluation parameters because overestimating the risk.

In the different healthcare settings, evidence shows that healthcare workers can be exposed to various work-related hazards, which might be ergonomics, biological, psychological, and physical hazards. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are frequently reported among the different healthcare workers, and estimates indicate that surgeons are the most commonly affected. Disorders and injuries related to the backbone, shoulders, wrist, and knees are mainly reported by healthcare workers as relevant ergonomic hazards. In the present literature review, we have discussed the commonest ergonomics that have been reported in the literature among healthcare workers. Musculoskeletal disorders as back, knee, and wrist pain are the most frequently reported among the different settings. We have also assessed the different reasons that might attribute to the development of such events, and increased workload and working hours, in addition to the harmful postures are the main reasons that have been reported in the literature. Each clinical and surgical setting might be associated with significant risk factors over others, and therefore, specific interventions should be applied within these settings to enhance satisfaction among healthcare workers. Healthcare authorities are mainly responsible to achieve this. However, further epidemiological investigations are still needed to adequately plan the righteous interventional programs.

OBJECTIVE To review the senior resident health trainee's perceived status and need for quality improvement and patient safety (QIPS) education in the residency training program of Saudi Arabia. METHODS Residents of medical, dentistry, and pharmacy education were surveyed in 2023 by using pretested 10 QIPS questions. The median and interquartile range (IQR) of the score was correlated to gender, branch, and level of residency training. RESULTS We surveyed 202 senior residents. Males were 131 (64.9%). Residents of medical (126, 62.4%), dentistry (39, 19.3%), and pharmacy (37, 18.3%). The median score of responses to the QIPS survey was 7.0 (IQR 4.0, 11.6). The median score of residents of dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy were 10 (IQR 7.0, 12.5), 6.75 (IQR 4.0, 12.0), and 5.0 (IQR 2.5, 8.0) respectively, and was significantly different (Kruskal Wallis (KW) chi-square = 19.8, P = .001). The exposure to the QIPS project was significantly and positively associated with a high QIPS score (MW U P = .02). The variations in the score by gender (Mann Whitney P = .148) and the level of residency (KW P = .86) were not statistically significant. Three-fourths of participants feel the need for formal training about QIPS. Nearly half of the participants were not happy with the current method of QIPS training methodology. More than 40% of participants were not sure about questions about opportunities and mentorship of QIPS projects. One-third were involved in QIPS projects. CONCLUSIONS Although senior residents were interested in QIPS, they were dissatisfied with current methods and opportunities to execute supervised QIPS projects. Residents of dentistry and those having performed QIPS projects had higher QPIS knowledge and satisfaction with training.
