Ergebnisse der Keratoplastik à chaud

Abstract: The results of keratoplasty à chaud in 49 eyes are reported. None of the eyes had to be enucleated. In 43% the transplant remained clear. The prognosis was best in cases of bacterial or fungal ulcers, provided that vascularization did not involve more than one quadrant. The results are compared with those of other authors who recommend the use of tissue adhesives first and only perform corneal grafting some months later.

“…The observed graft survival after emergency intervention compares well with those reported in the literature (Thiel 1978;Behrens-Baumann 1984;Weidle & Thiel 1984). The survival rate is similar to that observed with risk patients subjected to planned surgery (Andersen & Ehlers 1986) that is about 50%, which is in accordance with the findings of others (Volker-Dieben et al 1984).…”

“…Treatment directed towards corneal ulcers 516 comprise topical and systemic antibiotics, different techniques of conjunctival plastic surgery, cpntact lenses, tissue adhesives and grafting. Immediate keratoplasty has often been prevented by a lack of suitable donor material, but favourable results have, nevertheless, been published (Thiel 1978;Weidle & Thiel 1984;Behrens-Baumann 1984).…”

“…In rare instances, a lamellar corneal graft may be indi cated [75], However, in most cases, a penetrating kerato plasty is recommended [76,77], The advantage of a pene trating graft ( fig. 6) includes the elimination of fungi simultaneously with the secondary inflammatory reac tion, which affects both the cornea and the anterior cham ber.…”
