ERCP with the overtube-assisted enteroscopy technique: a systematic review

Abstract: Both endoscopic and ERCP success rates were highest in patients with Billroth II anatomy, followed by those with pancreaticoduodenectomy and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy; the lowest success rates were in patients with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Cannulation rates appeared to be equivalent in patients with both native papilla and biliary-enteric or pancreaticoenteric anastomoses. The diagnostic and therapeutic potential of balloon-assisted ERCP were high and the adverse event rate was low.

“…Single balloon enteroscope (SBE), double balloon enteroscope (DBE), and rotational/spiral enteroscopes have all been studied with overall success rate of 70% in a large meta-analysis comprising 266 RYGB patients. 5 There were no statistically significant differences between the therapeutic success rates between SBE, DBE and rotational enteroscope assisted ERCPs. Furthermore, there were no significant difference in the success rates between native papilla and anastomosis.…”

“…Furthermore, there were no significant difference in the success rates between native papilla and anastomosis. 5 Similarly, in a large U.S. multicenter retrospective study involving 63 RYGB patients, the overall suc-cess rate of ERCP was 62% with no significant difference among various enteroscopes. In this study, no difference in success rates was seen between RYGB and non-gastric bypass post-surgical anatomy patients.…”
