Erbium dicobalt disilicide, ErCo2Si2

Abstract: Single crystals of erbium dicobalt disilicide were synthesized from the corresponding elements by arc melting. The ternary intermetallic compound crystallizes in the body‐centred tetragonal space group I4/mmm and adopts the CeGa2Al2 structure type, with all atoms in special positions.

“…This paper is part of a systematic study of the interaction of erbium and transition metals with silicon or germanium. The Er-Co-Si ternary system has not been completely investigated yet, but eight ternary compounds have been found to exist: tetragonal ErCo 2 Si 2 [1][2][3][4] and ErCo 9 Si 2 [5], orthorhombic ErCoSi [6,7], ErCoSi 2 [6,8,9] and Er 2 Co 3 Si 5 [10], monoclinic Er 2 CoSi 2 [11], Er 5 Co 4 Si 14 ("Er 3 Co 2 Si 7 ") [6,12] and Er 3 CoSi 3 [13]. Quite recently, the other new ternary phase, ErCo 5 Si 3 , was found and its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray single crystal method [14].…”

“…ErNi 2 Si 2 adopts the ThCr 2 Si 2 type structure (Fig. 1), and is isotypic with ErCo 2 Si 2 (Demchenko et al, 2005) (Fig. 1a), and the Si atom (site symmetry 4mm) is at the centre of a monocapped tetragonal antiprism, [SiNi 4 Si 1 Er 4 ] (Fig.…”
