“…4,5 Only a few reports detailed clinical, histological and immunohistological findings of IM ineldery have been published in the literature. [6][7][8] The histomorphological findings IM in elderly patients appear similar to those of typical IM in younger patients. 7,8 However, clinical presentations of IM elderly are quite distinct from the clinical findings of IM in younger patients, including absence of atypical lymphocytosis of the peripheral blood.…”

“…EBVpositive DLBCL of the elderly is still considered a provisional entity that requires a more precise definition and distinction from other EBV-related disorders, including reactive lesions, EBVpositive classic Hodgkin lymphoma, and the recently described mucocutaneous ulcer. [47][48][49] The term EBV-positive DLBCL of the elderly emphasizes the tendency of these lesions to present at advanced age, although there is no sharp age limit, and similar lesions may be found in younger persons. To date, reports of these tumors in Western countries are limited.…”

“…The group of EBV þ diffuse large B-cell lymphomas includes a recently defined subtype known as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the elderly, in which immunological deterioration is additionally associated with the aging process. [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35] The polymorphous subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the elderly, in particular, is additionally associated with a polymorphous background consisting of a broad range of B-cell maturation and mixture of reactive elements, including small lymphocytes, plasma cells and histiocytes, similar to that seen in acute EBV infection. These cases can also be associated with large areas of geographic necrosis and ReedSternberg-like cells.…”
