Eprinomectin in dairy zebu Gobra cattle (Bos indicus): plasma kinetics and excretion in milk

Abstract: The pharmacokinetics and mammary excretion of eprinomectin were determined in zebu Gobra following topical administration of 0.5 mg kg(-1). The kinetics of plasma and milk was analysed using a one-compartment model. The maximum plasma concentration of 8.83+/-2.15 ng ml(-1) occurred 1.30 days post-administration. The area under the plasma concentration-time curve was 30.63+/-5.56 ng day(-1) ml(-1) and the mean residence time was 3.38+/-0.60 days. Eprinomectin was detected in milk at the first sampling time and … Show more

“…Pharmacokinetics of eprinomectin following topical administration have been described in both lactating and non-lactating bovine species or breeds, such as Prim Holstein (Alvinerie et al, 1999c), Indian Zebu cattle (Bengone-Ndong et al, 2006) Water Buffaloes (Dupuy et al, 2008) and Aubrac cattle (non-lactating, Lumaret et al, 2005). Pharmacokinetic parameters varied in different bovine species or breeds.…”

“…The pharmacokinetics of eprinomectin have been described in several bovine species or breeds, including the Prim Holstein (Alvinerie et al ., ), Chinese Holstein (Wen et al ., ), Braunvieh (Rehbein et al ., ), Indian Zebu cattle (Bengone‐Ndong et al ., ), and water buffaloes (Dupuy et al ., ), it has not been reported in lactating yaks. These reports show that the pharmacokinetics of eprinomectin could be quite different in different bovine species or breeds.…”

“…Due to the physiological adaptations of zebu Gobra to its environment, drug pharmacokinetics may be different in comparison with other ruminants. It has been demonstrated that the availability of ivermectin and eprinomectin is low in zebu Gobra in comparison to other breeds of cattle (Bengone Ndong et al 2005, 2006. As the antiparasitic activity of macrocyclic lactones depends on drug concentrations and time of parasite exposure to them, an evaluation of the pharmacokinetic profiles may help to estimate and optimize drug efficacy.…”
