EPLAODV: Energy Priority and Link Aware Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol for Post-disaster Communication Networks

Abstract: In Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) the major issue between nodes for data transfer is link quality. The majority of the MANET routing protocols try to maintain the link quality between nodes but still need improvement. This paper focuses on link quality between nodes in an ad hoc network in emergency scenarios through the design of the Energy Priority and Link Aware Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector (EPLAODV) routing protocol. EPLAODV improves the link quality between nodes through SNR. For performance analysis… Show more

“…The RREP contains a sufficient number of hops to reach the destination. The nodes are responsible for acknowledging with an RREP that the source node also establishes a forwarding route to the destination ( Soomro et al, 2020 ; Sayedahmed, Fahmy & Hefny, 2020 ). Thus, AODV establishes a route between a source and a destination through a hop-by-hop routing methodology.…”

“…A variant of the AOMDV protocol is the Speed Direction AODV (SD-AODV) [20], in which the parameters of speed and direction are included in the hop count field during the process of route establishment. In [21], data transfer rate is optimized using Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), improving link quality and minimizing energy consumption. A reactive routing protocol is proposed in [22] that minimizes the routing load by selecting reliable routes during the route discovery phase.…”

“…A natural disaster is an unforeseen and catastrophic event that can strike anywhere in the world, disrupting societies and causing significant loss of life, rationality, and economic impact [1]. In such dire situations, disaster management plays a crucial role in providing support to those at risk and managing emergencies efficiently [2]. To recover and improve communications in post-disaster scenarios, various technologies have been proposed to facilitate faster and more reliable communication [3].…”
