“…It is currently rare in French Guiana or in rural villages if there is a domestic or peridomestic cycle, as was suggested more than 10 years ago in Cayenne and Cacao. 6 The possible existence of such a cycle must be studied despite the absence of documented Chagas disease cases in these areas for more than 15 years. A recent serological study involving ELISA with 1,500 sera collected between 1992 and 1998 from subjects originating from all over the country showed an overall seroprevalence of 0.5% when considering only specific IgG antibodies (Aznar C and others, unpublished data).…”
