Epitaxial growth of biaxially oriented YBCO films on silver

Abstract: YBCO films were deposited on (100), ( 110) and ( 111) oriented silver single crystals and {100} 100 , {110} 211 and {012} 100 biaxially textured Ag substrates by pulsed laser deposition. It is shown that the (100) and ( 110) orientated single crystals and the {110} biaxially textured Ag tape are all suitable for the deposition of YBCO thin films with c-axis in-plane alignment. The J c of YBCO film deposited on {110} 211 biaxially textured Ag foil is 7 × 10 5 A cm −2 at 77 K, 0 T. A scheme for the regular growt… Show more

“…Several groups reported the deposition of bi-axially orientated YBCO or Tl-1223 superconductors on silver single crystals [4,5] or on bi-axial textured silver sheets [4][5][6][7] avoiding intermediate (buffer) layers. The fabrication of a bi-axially textured silver substrate is rather difficult due to the low stacking fault energy of the silver [8,9].…”

“…(2) to the experimental data. The t parameters: T c and n as well as the critical currents in the liquid nitrogen temperature, J c (77 K), calculated according to the formula (2) for the all YBCO lms and the appropriate thickness of the samples are collected in Table. The critical currents in the liquid nitrogen temperature and the exponent n obtained in this paper are a little better than obtained in our previous work [17]. From the results one can observe the existence of superconductivity up to 90 K for YBCO lms except of the lm made from the fourth fraction (the smallest) powder; but the critical current densities are not very high.…”

“…Silver is typically used as a substrate of superconducting material in superconducting tapes and wires of yttrium [1,2], thallium [3,4] or bismuth [5,6] based high temperature superconductors. The direct deposition of YBCO lms on silver substrates without any buer layers is one of the most promising and low-cost method of production of the superconducting tapes [7].…”
