Individuals are increasingly relying on social media as their primary source of scientific information. Science education needs to adapt. Nature of science (NOS) education is already widely accepted as essential to scientific literacy and to an informed public. We argue that NOS now needs to also include the NOS communication: its mediation, mechanisms, and manipulation. Namely, students need to learn about the epistemics of communicative practices, both within science (as a model) and in society. After profiling the current media landscape, we consider the implications of recent major studies on science communication for science education in the 21st century. We focus in particular on communicative patterns prominent in social media: algorithms to aggregate news, filter bubbles, echo chambers, spirals of silence, falseconsensus effects, fake news, and intentional disinformation.We claim that media literacy is now essential to a complete view of the NOS, or "Whole Science." We portray that new content as an extension of viewing science as a system of specialized experts, with mutual epistemic dependence, and the social and communicative practices that establish trust and credibility. We study neutral-and charged-current (anti)neutrino-induced dissociation of the deuteron at energies from threshold up to 150 MeV by employing potentials, as well as one-and two-body currents, derived in chiral effective field theory (χEFT). We provide uncertainty estimates from χEFT truncations of the electroweak current, dependences on the χEFT cutoff, and variations in the pool of fit data used to fix the low-energy constants of χEFT. At 100 MeV of incident (anti)neutrino energy, these uncertainties amount to about 2-3% and are smaller than the sensitivity of the cross sections to the single-nucleon axial form factor, which amounts to 5% if one varies the range of the nucleon axial radius within the bands determined by recent lattice quantum chromodynamics evaluations and phenomenological extractions. We conclude that a precise determination of the nucleon axial form factor is required for a high-precision calculation of the neutrino-deuteron cross sections at energies higher than 100 MeV. By matching our low-energy χEFT results to those of pionless effective field theory ( ¡ πEFT), we provide new constraints for the counterterm L1,A that parametrizes the strength of the axial two-body current in ¡ πEFT. We obtain a value of 4.9 +1.9 −1.5 fm 3 at renormalization scale set to pion mass, which is compatible with, albeit narrower than, previous experimental determinations, and comparable to a recent lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation.

The study analyses the epistemologies of online breaking news, focusing on the distinctive epistemic practices and challenges in the production of continuous news updates and online live broadcast. The analytical framework identifies three central aspects of news epistemology: the articulation of knowledge claims; how journalists know what they claim to know; and the justification of knowledge claims. The study draws on data from ethnographic research at a Swedish online first. Participant observations and interviews were carried out during spring and summer 2018. The study shows differences in the epistemic claims of news updates and live broadcast, how commitments to facts are carefully balanced in the enactment of discursive resources, and how justification is related to the calculation of epistemic efforts. The implications of different temporalities in news production are analyzed. The study identifies three forms of epistemic dissonance that ultimately jeopardize the authority of news media as a provider of valuable public information.
