Epigenomic profiling of primate lymphoblastoid cell lines reveals the evolutionary patterns of epigenetic activities in gene regulatory architectures

Abstract: Changes in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression have a central role in evolution. Here, we extensively profiled a panel of human, chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan, and macaque lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs), using ChIP-seq for five histone marks, ATAC-seq and RNA-seq, further complemented with whole genome sequencing (WGS) and whole genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS). We annotated regulatory elements (RE) and integrated chromatin contact maps to define gene regulatory architectures, creating the larges… Show more

“…All 40 studies we considered included at least one unadmixed individual of Western ancestry. In contrast, only two studies sampled a Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (as we later discovered, this was the same individual); and only S35 ( García-Pérez et al 2021 ) sampled a purely Central chimpanzee. None of the studies considered subspecies when sampling.…”

“…GM19238 (human) and EB185(JC) (orangutan) were purchased from Coriell Institute and Sigma-Aldrich, respectively. The remaining cell lines used in this article are described in García-Pérez et al (2021). Detailed information for the panel of LCLs is provided in Supplemental Table S1.…”
