Epidermotropic metastatic melanoma with perilesional depigmentation in an Indian male

Abstract: Melanoma is a rare form of cutaneous malignancy encountered in the dark skin population. Epidermotropic metastatic melanoma is a rare form of cutaneous metastatic melanoma which can mimic primary melanoma on histopathology. Hence its differentiation is of immense prognostic importance. The occurrence of rim of depigmentation around the primary cutaneous melanoma has previously been reported to portend a bad prognosis. The occurrence of vitiligo like lesions in patients with metastatic melanoma in comparison ha… Show more

“…22 Epidermotropic metastasis has also been described in numerous other primary carcinomas including breast carcinoma, urothelial carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, and melanoma. [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] In the vast majority of cases, comparison between the histopathologic features and immunoprofiles of primary and metastatic tumors can be relied upon to correctly diagnose these lesions. However, as seen in our case, the use of molecular diagnostics was helpful when morphology and immunohistochemistry were of limited use to differentiate between primary vs metastatic SCC.…”
