Epidemiology and secular trends of malignant lymphoma in Japan: Analysis of 9426 cases according to the World Health Organization classification

Abstract: This study provides an overview of the epidemiology and secular trends of malignant lymphoma in Japan. Using data from clinics and hospitals throughout Japan, we analyzed 9426 cases of malignant lymphoma diagnosed in 2007‐2014. We show that the proportion of follicular lymphoma and methotrexate‐associated lymphoproliferative disorder increased during this time, as did the onset age for follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma. Significant increases in onset age for follicular lymphoma and diffuse … Show more

“…The ratios of R-G, R/R-G, P-G, and Ch-G in MTX-EBV+DLBCL and MTX-DLBCL-NOS were 62%, 3%, 17%, 17%, and 26%, 6%, 36%, 26%, respectively. The rate of regressive LPD (R-G+R/R-G) was higher in MTX-EBV+DLBCL than in MTX-DLBCL-NOS (65% and 32%, respectively), supporting the previous report 58 . The ratio of patients with RRE in MTX-EBV+DLBCL and MTX-DLBCL-NOS was low (4% and 6%, respectively).…”

“…Although MTX-EBV+DLBCL is female dominant (71%), MTX-DLBCL-NOS has a lower incidence rate in females (59%). Mean ages at the development of MTX-DLBCL are similar between MTX-EBV+DLBCL and MTX-DLBCL-NOS (66 and 68 years, respectively, Table 1), which is similar to de novo DLBCL 58 . In both types of MTX-DLBCL, the most common AID was RA, and the duration of AID and MTX administration was over 10 and 5 years, respectively.…”

“…In this study, we found that the prevalence of FL was also increased in Korea. A recent report also showed an increasing prevalence of FL in Japan, with 6% between 1996 and 2000, 18.3% between 2000 and 2006, and 22.4% between 2007 and 2014 [15]. The age of onset for FL was also found to be lower (52-54 years) in Asian countries than that in international studies (59 years) [16].…”
