“…The highest frequency of cervical cancer cases in Malaysia was among the Chinese which is consistent with a study done by Domingo et al, (2008). Chinese women led the other races for the 5-year survival rate, with the highest survival rate of 73.8% despite them having the highest incidence rate of the cancer.…”

“…There are several aetiological factors for cervical cancer and the most significant is due to persistent infection of specific human papillomavirus (HPV) strains, particularly type 16 and 18 which are the most common (Domingo et al, 2008;Haghshenas et al, 2013). Since HPV is a type of virus that is transmitted sexually (Shepherd et al, 2000), other known risk factors for cervical cancer are mostly related to sexual behaviour.…”

“…HPV-58 is not rare in Asian women with normal cervical cytology; its prevalence being <1% in Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Korea (Domingo et al, 2008;Konno et al, 2008) and 1~2% in Taiwan and China (Shi et al, 2008;Tay et al, 2008). Among SCCA patients, a condensation of HPV-58 infection (about 26%) was reported in Shanghai (Huang et al, 1997), whereas it reached 18% in Khon Kaen (present study; Sriamporn et al, 2006).…”

“…Since their prophylactic spectra are limited to HPV-16, -18 (and additionally -6 and -11 for Gardasil ® ), only 70% of invasive cervical cancer cases can be prevented worldwide (Serrano et al, 2012;Xue et al, 2012;Yue et al, 2013) and also in Thailand. Common dissemination of HPV-58 as well as -33 and -31 in Thailand (Sukvirach et al, 2003;Domingo et al, 2008) demands invention and circulation of a novel vaccine targeting these minor but burdensome HPV strains.…”

“…For limited-resource, manual liquid based cytologi in primary screening is still preferable (Nandini et al, 2012). In Indonesia, cervical cancer screening programs consists of Pap smears and now visual inspection with acetic acid is also increasing, however, the uptake of screening remains low (Domingo et al, 2008). Furthermore, the genotyping result might not give a difference in therapy management from the clinical point of view, thus, with lots of HPV genotyping detection available in the market one should be aware of the advantage and disadvantage of the tests and has the possibility to compare the techniques to get higher agreement between tests.…”
