Purpose: Our study aims to investigate the effectiveness of other treatment methods for burn related scarring and to determine the possibility of their routine administration in similar clinical settings.Methods: Through a prospective study, 66 patients were enrolled to receive either the conventional pressure garment therapy (PGT) and Silicone (control group) or exercise and physiotherapy (case group). Patients were visited regularly to be examined for the status of their scars' regression, limbs' dysfunction, and joint motion. Then, these two groups were compared to determine the efficacy of exercise and physiotherapy as an alternative to the conventional treatment with PGT.Results: After about 20 months follow-up, decreased articular range of motion (ROM) was: 16 (51.5%) cases compared to 5 (15%) of controls had mild, 11 (35.5%) of the cases compared to 13 (39.5%) of the controls had moderate; and 4 (13%) of the cases compared to 15 (45.5%) of the controls had severe decreased ROM which revealed statistically significant difference (P<0.01). At the same time, Vancouver Scar Scale score was: 15 (48%) of the cases and 6 (18%) of the controls had mild Scar Scale, 12 (39%) of the cases and 14 (42.5%) of the controls had moderate score and 4 (3%) of the cases and 13 (39.5%) of the controls had severe score which revealed a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion:Our study showed that physical therapy andexercise are more effective than PGT, in management of burn hypertrophic scar, hence could be an alternative in cases that conventional therapy cannot be used for any reason.

Introduction: The goal of paediatric hand and foot burn management is hypertrophic scar and/or contracture prevention. The risk of scar formation may be minimised by integrating Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) as an acute care adjunct as it decreases the time to re-epithelialisation. NPWT has known associated therapeutic burden; however, this burden is hypothesised to be outweighed by an increased likelihood of hypertrophic scar prevention. This study will assess the feasibility, acceptability and safety of NPWT in paediatric hand and foot burns with secondary outcomes of time to re-epithelialisation, pain, itch, cost and scar formation. Methods and analysis: This is a single site, pilot randomised control trial. Participants must be aged ≤16-years, otherwise well and managed within 24hours of sustaining either a hand or foot burn. Thirty participants will be randomised to either standard care (Mepitel® – a silicone wound interface contact dressing – and ACTICOAT™ – a nanocrystalline silver-impregnated dressing) or standard care plus NPWT. Patients will be reviewed until three months post burn wound re-epithelialisation, with measurements taken at dressing changes to assess primary and secondary outcomes. Surveys, randomisation and data storage will be done via online platforms and physical data storage collated at the Centre for Children’s Health Research, Brisbane, Australia. Analysis will be performed using Stata statistical software. Ethics and Dissemination: Queensland Health and Griffith University Human Research ethics approval including a site-specific assessment was obtained. The findings of this study will be disseminated through clinical meetings, conference presentations and peer reviewed journals. As cicatrizes inestéticas podem desencadear repercussões sintomáticas, funcionais, estéticas e emocionais. Entre os principais tratamentos atualmente encontrados está o microagulhamento. Objetivo: Estudo prospectivo, quantitativo, avaliando os benefícios do tratamento de cicatrizes com uma única sessão de microagulhamento. Métodos: Foi realizado uma única sessão de microagulhamento em cicatrizes de 28 pacientes. Antes da realização do procedimento com cilindros contendo 192 agulhas de 2,5mm e 90 dias após, as cicatrizes foram fotografadas de modo padronizado, tendo sido aplicada a Escala de Avaliação Cicatricial do Paciente e Observador. Por meio da pontuação fornecida realizou-se uma avaliação quantitativa através da análise dos parâmetros -sendo eles vascularização, pigmentação, espessura, relêvo, maleabilidade, área de superfície, dor, prurido, cor, rigidez, altura e irregularidade-, além do escore total e opinião geral do paciente e do observador. Resultados: Todas as variáveis obtiveram melhora, exceto a dor, dando destaque à maleabilidade e à altura. Além disso, a opinião geral do paciente e do observador apresentou melhoria de 51%. Conclusões: O microagulhamento é um tratamento seguro, de baixo custo, minimamente invasivo, apresentando resultados eficazes em uma única sessão.
